BLOGS The word "blog" is a contraction of the term "web log." It is, or can be, a kind of journal in which the person who creates it puts up some piece of writing - an essay, poetry, in some cases a rant about pet peeves - anything that the person wants to use in the way of self-expression. Usually a blog is added to daily and anyone who has the address may enter, read and/or add an entry to a discussion. People who have dreamed of writing a daily political or humor column, for instance, and have not had any offer from publishers, can publish their own column on their blog. Someone who does this can usually be assured that at least some friends and relatives will check the blog out occasionally and, if the writing is clever enough or the subject matter of widespread interest, the word may get around and a wider audience may be created. Blogs are free. To create a blog a person merely needs to create an "account" pick a name and a template. That's it! Your only limitations are your own creativity and a blog is the ultimate vehicle for your personal creativity in words, designs or photos. Computer expertise is not required to begin a blog but it will no doubt grow as you become more and more accustomed to using your blog daily and getting feedback from others on it. Human creativity is a marvelous thing - we all hear dire predictions about how technology is making everything uniform and cutting back on spontaneity. But people will always find ways to use technology for their own creative ends. Blogs are the latest fun way to do that.
