It seems that there is something in the human soul that is enriched by helping to bring forth beauty and nourishment from the soil. One can hardly find an activity that elicits more descriptive language about its bestowal of peace, tranquility, stress reduction and harmony than the act of gardening. One of the most beautiful things about it is that gardening can be undertaken at many levels of effort and expertise. Did you know, for instance, that beautiful flower and vegetable gardens can be, and are, produced in tiny, raised plots or containers in the smallest of back yards and even on city rooftops? Do you know about the benefits of organic gardening? If your passion is flowers have you considered the difference between annuals which bloom during the whole spring and summer seasons but must be replanted each year and perennials which have a shorter blooming season but reappear as if by magic year and after year and even spread their bounty over a larger area each year unless you want to cut them back? Have you experienced the joy of planting bulbs in the fall and watching the first brave flowers appear in early spring, sometimes even coming up like signs of hope while snow is still on the ground? What do you see when you think of a garden of your own? Do you imagine picking fresh lettuce, tomatoes, corn and beans for your supper every day? A short walk through a garden supply site will ignite your imagination beyond anything you've thought possible. Have pessimists convinced you that gardens are too much work - all that digging and weeding and watering? Did you know that there are dozens of ways of cutting down on weed growth without using chemicals? Did you know that putting the right plants next to each other contributes to natural pest control? There are so many things to learn - but it's up to you how ambitious you are in your gardening plans. Until you decide exactly what size and type of garden you want we urge you to start small, but dream big! Lets face it Gardening is fun and its good for you.
